ARTICLING PROGRAM

MONTRÉAL PROGRAM FOCUS

Successful applicants to the articling program begin their six-month placement after writing their Bar Admission exams. To broaden their exposure to the Firm's areas of practice, articling students work in different practice areas over the program term. Whenever possible, students are given the opportunity to focus on their practice area of choice.

PRACTICE AREAS & INDUSTRIES

The Gowlings Montréal Summer Program generally focuses on one of our three major practice areas – business law, advocacy or intellectual property.

In Business Law you will be exposed to most, but perhaps not all, areas of business law, which includes general corporate/commercial, technology, tax, energy, corporate finance, financial services, real estate and environmental law. In litigation, you will gain experience in most areas of our litigation practice, such as commercial litigation, banking litigation, employment and labour law, insurance and professional liability, product liability, health law and class actions. And finally, our Intellectual Property practice covers areas such as patents, trademarks, copyright, industrial design and marketing/advertising.

With a broad clientele of national and multinational organizations, Gowlings Montréal provides students with exposure to a wide variety of industries including Energy, Financial Services, Government Relations, Infrastructure, Mining, Manufacturing, Technology and Life Sciences.

RECRUITMENT INFORMATION

The articling program at the Gowlings Montréal office appeals to students who value the diversity of our practice areas and the broad talent base of our professionals. We're looking for individuals who are passionate about the practice of law, dedicated to client service and driven to excel in everything they do. Our culture encourages collaboration, rewards innovation and recognizes the value of interests outside of school and work. At Gowlings we're all about the team, so we want people who recognize the value of teamwork, but who can also work independently when the occasion calls for it.

Each year, Gowlings' Montréal office selects approximately eight students to do their articling at the firm. This small number allows us to hire those who successfully complete their articling with us. Gowlings Montréal is party to the recruiting agreement for law firms of the Montréal region. Gowlings recruits in accordance with any and all applicable law society guidelines.

Gowlings Montréal is an equal opportunity employer. Nonetheless, we appreciate that there is value in diversity in the make-up of our professional and administrative personnel complement.  Aboriginal persons, members of visible minorities, and persons with a disability should, therefore, feel free to self-identify.
